AFROFEST: BRINGING THE HEAT TO VICTORIA PARK

AFROFEST Media Release, Regina SK

This weekend, Victoria Park is going to come alive with the rhythms and sounds of Africa. Regina’s newest festival – Regina AfroFest – will launch on Friday, July 4, 2014 with a drum workshop at Boomtown Drums on 1801 Retallack Street 4:00 – 5:30 pm and an outdoor event on Saturday, July 5 from Noon – 8:00 pm at Victoria Park.

AfroFest is a celebration of Africa’s diverse cultures – right here in Regina. The event was formed from a vision to bring people together to experience African music, culture, and traditions; and especially to increase awareness and interest in African culture.

The festival will feature live music performances by international and local groups showcasing a wide range of African music styles including, Afrobeats, roots reggae, traditional drumming, Soukouss and Afro-pop. The line-up will feature Njacko Backo (Cameroon), Master drummer Amara Kanté (Guinea), Coffieman (Ghana), ClearVox (an eight-piece Soukouss band from Congo), local reggae group Dr. Bird & Blue Beat, African Princess Dance Troupe and more. Regina AfroFest will offer something for everyone… from traditional dishes, colourful clothing, authentic African arts & crafts, face painting and storytelling for the kids.
